EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca, has encouraged Albanian prosecutors and judges to “follow the money” in their investigations and cases, exit.al reported.

On the anniversary of the killing of Italian magistrate Giovanni Falcone by the mafia, Soreca, an Italian himself, praised efforts to reform the justice system in Albania.

“Albania has taken important steps ahead in the fight against organised crime and money laundering. Is it enough? There surely is a lot of work to do, it should be, and the follow-the-money concept should be implemented. We will succeed. The justice reform is creating many Giovanni Falcone,” Soreca stated from Korca on Sunday.

The ambassador refused to comment on the banning of former President Sali Berisha and his family from entering the US, saying that he fully respects the US government’s decision.

The ambassador also reiterated that Albania is ready to sit in accession talks with the EU. (Željko Trkanjec | EURACTIV.hr)
