The replacement of the status-neutral “KS” Kosovo license plates in North Kosovo was part of the agreement that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić signed with the Albanians five years ago, and the current situation is a result of Vucic’s politics, former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Živković said on Tuesday.
Živković told Danas daily that the “shock and astonishment” of the current authorities in Belgrade at the Kosovo police entering North Kosovo and seizing the “KS” license plates at the border crossing with Serbia, “can only mean that Vučić has realised, after five years, that he had made a mistake by signing the agreement” and that only he is to blame.
“That’s why he is now trying to play the role of the saviour of Serbs and all things Serbian, but we know that whenever Vučić, [Ivica] Dačić, and [Aleksandar] Vulin, as well as their mentors, [Slobodan] Milošević and [Vojislav] Šesšlj, decided to defend the Serbs, there were no Serbs left afterwards. This is why I fear for the Serbs in Kosovo whom Vučić is trying to defend,” Živković said.
According to Živković, who was prime minister from 2003 to 2004, after the assassination of Zoran Đinđić, the National Security Council’s emergency session, called by Vučić because of the situation in North Kosovo, “is just another farce and an indicator that even Vučić himself has come to realise that he had made a mistake by signing the agreement five years ago, whose provisions are now coming into force.”
