Germany has suspended the funding of infrastructure projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Serb entity Republika Srpska because its political leaders are obstructing the work of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s central authorities and bringing its stability into question, the foreign ministry said.

The German Embassy in Sarajevo published the German government’s decision to suspend four projects worth over €100 million, Hina reported.

Germany planned to finance the reconstruction of hydroelectric power plants in Trebinje, the construction of a wind park in east Herzegovina, and a wastewater treatment plant in Bosanska Gradiška.

The suspension will be in force until Republika Srpska politicians stop obstructing the work of the central state authorities and until the entity parliament withdraws decisions on taking over state powers.

The embassy also said that the German government would resolutely oppose any political and economic destabilisation of BiH through separatist aspirations.
