Albania saw its good governance indicators deteriorate during the pandemic, according to the EBRD’s transition report for 2020-2021 entitled “The state strikes back”.

For Albania, the report indicates a decrease in efficiency by the courts, as well as the persisting problems with perceptions of corruption.

The score given to Albania, according to EBRD, has fallen from 5.16 (2019) to 4.5 (2020) based on a methodological scale in which 10 represents the highest standards of a market economy. The recent score places Albania second last in the region, with only Bosnia-Herzegovina behind it.

The title of the report reflects the growing demand worldwide for the state to step in and manage the COVID-19 crisis. (Željko Trkanjec | EURACTIV.hr)
