The leader of Greek socialist party (Pasok) Fofi Gennimata died on Monday following years of fighting cancer. All political forces praised Gennimata for her bravery and honesty.
“A brave woman who gave dignity to all the battles of her life, the smallest and the biggest, without ever losing her bright smile,” Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou stated.
On 12 October, 57-year-old Gennimata was suddenly hospitalised and immediately decided to withdraw from the race for the party’s leadership.
Gennimata was known as a low-profile politician who helped the Greek socialist party survive in difficult times. Her parents died from cancer around the same age.
