More than 1.3 million emails and letters containing the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate have so far been issued Irish residents who have been fully vaccinated, RTE has reported.

The government aims to have 1.8 million certificates issued by Monday, Minister of State for eGovernment Ossian Smyth told a parliamentary committee on Transport and Communications.

Of the emails sent, 7,500 have “bounced”, with these users being asked to contact dedicated call centres running from next Monday also. Minister Smyth told Fine Gael’s Joe Carey that “when you have a database of emails and more than 99% of them are delivered, that’s an incredibly high-quality data set.”

Many of the letters are being posted by Revenue, which aims to send between 50,000-70,000 letters per day, with a ramping up this weekend, the committee heard. At least 90% of the postal certificates should be sent by Monday.
