The announcements of Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday for strengthening the restrictions will be the last as “the next time will be for a new total lockdown”, government sources have said.

Greek media report that the PM will announce the closure of restaurants from 9 pm and a traffic ban from 10 pm. In practice, 3/4 of the country, i.e. almost 7 million Greeks, will be in the red zone.

The key factor for the government is to ease the pressure on the national health system. “The pandemic in our country is two to three weeks behind the rest of Europe and therefore there is the necessary time to avoid the worst,” sources said.

In the last week, the cases have surpassed the 1,000 threshold, while during this weekend experts estimate that they may reach 2,000.
