Most of mainland Portugal will remain on alert in the next fortnight due the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Lisbon metropolitan area will be in contingency, the government said on Thursday. By 15 September, the whole of mainland Portugal will become contingent, the government added.
“The figures from the last day and what we know from today’s figures show an increase in the number of cases and therefore, despite this downward trend in the Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region, as well as the relatively constant trend over the last fortnight, the government considers that the same measures that existed until now should continue into the next fortnight,” said the minister of the presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva.
The following fortnight, starting from 15 September, the whole country will be in a state of contingency so that the necessary measures can be defined in each area to prepare the return to school and the return of many Portuguese to their place of work, she added following Thursday’s cabinet meeting.
