UK political parties accepted more than £250,000 under the furlough scheme between April and June, the Electoral Commission reported on Thursday (3 September). EURACTIV’s Benjamin Fox has the details.
The Liberal Democrats accounted for most of the public money under the scheme, which allowed employers to claim 80% of staff salaries, claiming £178,907
By comparison, the governing Conservative party claimed £70,164 and Labour £9,914. Besides, neither the Conservatives or Labour have furloughed party employees during the pandemic. Income from donations for the political parties has also dropped substantially.
