North Macedonia consumes twice as much electricity as it produces, and to satisfy daily needs, it took electricity from the European network.

The state-owned Electricity Transmission System Operator of North Macedonia (MEPSO) has so far received four warnings from the Centre in Switzerland about unannounced intrusion into the European network.

So far, North Macedonia owes about €15 million from just one month, according to officials from MEPSO. They added that restrictions and an increase in the price of electricity would be necessary, mkd.mk agency announced.

The director of MEPSO explained that in such cases energy is taken from the European network and so far the country has done it four times without notice and received four warnings from the Centre in Switzerland where the calculations are made.
