Doing so would see bills fall by 60% he added, noting that the European People’s Party led by Donald Tusk, a political rival, was responsible for the package. “Poland must reject the EU climate package, then electricity bills will fall by 60%. The European People’s Party, led by Donald Tusk, is responsible for the EU’s insane climate policy”, Ziobro said. At the end of December, Ziobro announced he would apply to the authorities of his party to pass a resolution on Poland’s withdrawal from the EU climate and energy package known as Fit for 55. “As the leader of Solidarna Polska, I am going to apply to the party’s statutory authorities after Christmas to pass a resolution on Poland’s withdrawal from this irrational European Union programme that is assuming crazy proportions – the climate and energy package,” Ziobro then declared during a press conference. Ziobro did not specify, however, how the party wanted the government to block the package. On 9 December, the Sejm, parliament’s lower house, passed a resolution calling on the bloc’s countries to suspend and take steps towards reforming the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). A week later, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented the demands at a European Council meeting.
