Although most Greeks back sanctions against Russia, almost 66% oppose the government’s decision to send military equipment to Ukraine to fight against Russia, a new poll shows.

According to the poll conducted by MEGA TV, 66% of Greeks disagree with sending military equipment to Ukraine, and 29% agree with the government’s decision.

The Greek government has sent to Ukraine two C-130 transport aircraft loaded with military aid, such as Kalashnikov rifles and portable rocket launchers.

The decision to send military equipment drew criticism, as it was made by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis without consulting other political parties.

An overwhelming majority backs Ukraine in the war (70%), while 52% of respondents said an EU army needs to be created.

Regarding sanctions, 60% of respondents favoured, while 30% were against. Particularly in favour were 48% of left-wing voters and 64% of right-wing voters.

Last but not least, 53% believe that the war will be limited locally, but there is also a 40% who fear that it is likely to lead to a global conflict.
