Portugal has improved migrant integration policies in recent years, especially when it comes to health and education, for which it earned 81 of 100 points, according to 2019 data from the Migrant Integration Policies Index (MIPEX), which was presented on Wednesday (28 October).

Moreover, Portugal is “one of the top ten countries” as it ranks alongside Nordic countries and countries that are traditional destinations for immigrants.

The country also “leads specifically among new destination countries, far ahead of countries like Italy or Spain”.

MIPEX is the work of the Migration Policy Group (MPG) in partnership with the Barcelona Centre for International Relations. It is co-financed by the European Commission.
