Portugal may move forward with lifting COVID-19 restrictions as the country has entered a new phase of the pandemic, Health Minister Marta Temido said on Wednesday.

“As quickly as possible and as slowly as necessary,” Temido told journalists about the possible easing of restrictions after a briefing at the Lisbon headquarters of Infarmed – the national medicines agency – attended by experts and policymakers to assess the latest developments in the epidemiological situation.

Summing up the conclusions of the meeting, the minister said it is possible to consider that the country is already in a new phase of the pandemic but also acknowledged the many uncertainties that remain.

Temido has thus opened the door to review the current measures. In particular, Temido spoke of a new testing policy, a reassessment of the situations in which masks are mandatory and a change of the conditions in which the presentation of a digital COVID certificate is required.
