The number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 increased on Thursday (3 September) by 1,397, with ten new deaths. Overall, the figures show a steady increase in the last week, with a 38% increase in positive cases compared to the previous one, according to independent monitoring foundation Gimble.
“This trend shows that irresponsible behaviour should not be tolerated anymore, as we are approaching the delicate phase of reopening schools”, said Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimble Foundation.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Roberto Speranza praised the progress being made towards a potential COVID-19 vaccine.
“We are investing a lot in the vaccine because we consider it to be the real solution for Italy, Europe and the whole world. We created an alliance with Germany, the Netherlands and France to strengthen the European response and we hope to bring results at the earliest time possible”, the minister added.
