European Parliament chief David Sassoli has said that US Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked him for more cooperation on migration and asylum among European national parliaments, the EU House and US Congress.

“Last week before the G7, I had a long talk with the US Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi. And she was the one who asked for more cooperation between the Parliaments of Europe and the European Parliament and the US Congress, precisely on the issue of migration and asylum,” Sassoli said on Monday (14 June) at a conference on migration and asylum.

Sassoli said these are different contexts, but there can be common ways to accompany this challenge and that concerns all democratic systems.

“Let us raise the bar of challenges, not lower it. Let us use this time of pain and difficulty to seek new rules without taboos,” he added.
