Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Belgrade Brigadier General Tommaso Vitale said on Monday that Serbia is”a reliable partner” that plays “a key role in regional stability”.

During a meeting with Serbian Defence Minister Nebojša Stefanović, the NATO chief liaison officer in Serbia said the North Atlantic Alliance was committed to maintaining the size of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and meeting all the requirements of its mandate.

Stefanović said that Serbia did not aspire to NATO membership, explaining that its role in the Partnership for Peace was an optimal framework for cooperation with the Alliance, the defence ministry quoted the minister as saying.

The meeting was attended by Dutch Ambassador Gilles Beschoor Plug, who described Serbia-NATO cooperation as “mutually useful,” and pointed to the possibility of using the organisation’s logistical capacities to support medical cooperation in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
