“The mafia wants the government to resign,” said Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Wednesday (9 September), adding that because criminals were behind the protests against him, he no longer wants to resign.
A few weeks ago, Borissov announced his intention to resign when the draft for a new constitution was submitted, but has now backtracked.
The Bulgarian prime minister explained that the protesters, who have been demanding his resignation for more than two months, couldn’t offer an alternative. Should there be enough trained people to take over the government, Borissov said he’d happily resign. (Krassen Nikolov | EURACTIV.bg)
