EURACTIV Bulgaria published on Monday exclusive news about impending chaos on the country’s gas market. This time, the reason doesn’t lie with the main supplier, Russia – it is self-inflicted.
Without an apparent reason, energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova asked the Energy regulator to withdraw its application for the monthly gas price for September.
The legislation is such that the price must be approved every month and if this is not done – there is no price.
At the moment, however, there is no approved price for sales by the public supplier Bulgargaz, no invoices are issued, no money is paid for deliveries from Gazprom.
According to the website Capital, the order to withdraw from the regulator the application for the monthly gas price for September was personally given by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, his motivation being “not to pour oil on the fire of the protests” if the gas price rises.
Protests demanding Borissov’s resignation entered in their third month. A bigger than usual protest is expected on Thursday.
