Justice Minister Danail Kirilov filed his resignation on Wednesday after a talk with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. The PM will decide whether to accept Kirilov’s resignation following talks with coalition partners, after which parliament will have to vote on his resignation.
If Kirilov’s resignation is accepted, he will be the fifth minister to leave government since the start of the anti-government protests which have destabilised the country since July.
According to Bulgarian national radio, Kirilov resigned because of widespread criticism of him on social media. Kirilov is said to be one of the authors of the new constitution draft that was presented last week and criticized for strengthening the power of the general prosecutor.
