“A crisis of ethics in the BiH judiciary and the failure to ensure accountability for corruption cannot be ignored,” said the head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, US diplomat, Kathleen Kavalec, during the presentation of an OSCE report on the state of the judiciary in BiH.

“The OSCE Mission has the right, inter alia, to monitor all proceedings before courts, prosecutors’ offices and disciplinary commissions to provide general opinions and recommendations, respecting the independence of the judiciary and its institution, as well as respecting the authorities’ decisions,” said Milan Tegeltija, president of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH.

For his part, the head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative in BiH, Johann Sattler, noted that widespread corruption in the public sphere, and its strong link to organised crime, is one of the most arduous problems in BiH and that citizens are rightfully alarmed by it.

This is one of the biggest issues for BiH’s EU candidacy status.
