A small protest took place on the border of Kosovo and North Macedonia on Monday following the introduction of new COVID-19 travel rules.

Anyone wishing to enter Kosovo must now provide a vaccine certificate with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, or two doses and a negative PCR test.

Those attempting to cross the border from surrounding countries have demanded the government review the measures and allow travel with just two doses of the vaccine. The government said measures will only be reviewed after two weeks.

Kosovo tightened travel measures over the weekend as COVID-19 cases continued to soar. Some 2,943 cases were recorded on21 January, the highest number to date.

Other measures include a curfew between 10 pm and 5 am and all cafes and restaurants closing at 9 pm.
