Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli has said the government needs additional time to decide on building the infrastructure for the distribution of US natural gas.

The project has been arranged with Millenium Challenge Corporation, “an innovative and independent US foreign assistance agency that is helping lead the fight against global poverty”, it said on its web page.

“There are some issues which need additional clarification, such as finances, the overall cost of the project, building of the power plant,” Gazeta Express quoted minister Rizvanolli as saying.

A spokesman for the US Embassy in Pristina said the United States was continuing discussions with the Kosovo government about connecting to an existing pipeline with north Macedonia, a project proposed by the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Most of the funding, the spokesman said, would come from funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WIF).

The US Administration in 2021 included Kosovo in the budget of the federal agency MCC pledging 200 million dollars investment to build the gas pipeline that goes through North Macedonia and Greece and connects with the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) or other sources.
