WARSAW – German defence minister pours cold water on US troop plan speculations

A potential transfer of US troops from Germany to Poland must be discussed first by the whole of NATO, German defence minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer clarified on Tuesday (14 July), ahead of her Kramp-Karrenbauer her expected visit to Warsaw later on Wednesday.

Her comments, made in an interview with EURACTIV’s media partner Gazeta Wyborcza, came after US President Donald Trump repeated his plans to move some troops from Germany to Poland, while criticizing Berlin for not meeting a NATO defence-spending target and for buying energy from Russia.

“Such decisions apply to the entire Alliance, we will be able to talk about them as soon as the Pentagon presents concrete plans to the US Congress, and we in NATO will learn their details,” she added.
