It is in the best interest of Poland that a sovereign Belarus can decide its fate, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday (26 August) after parliamentary cross-party talks focused on the situation in Poland’s eastern neighbour.
Morawiecki said that the participants of the meeting “overwhelmingly” agreed that Poland’s actions on Belarus were “very appropriate”.
The Polish PM announced that the participants of the meeting agreed that “soon there will be a cross-party meeting in the European Parliament of all Polish MEPs from various factions, precisely on the subject of Belarus”.
“Poland and the Polish government, together with the opposition, have a duty to look after Polish interests, and caring for Polish interests is to ensure that there is a sovereign state beyond our eastern border,” he said during a press conference in Warsaw.
