Media in North Macedonia reported that Prime Minister Zoran Zaev would resign as soon as the majority in parliament, the Sobranje, is consolidated and strengthened.
After a meeting with Alternative party leader Afrim Gashi, Prime Minister and SDSM leader Zoran Zaev said they discussed several options.
“Our invitation is for Alternative to be part of the government. The target before us is regular elections, not early elections. Talks continue next week. We will inform the public as soon as we define something”, said Zaev.
The current coalition will have a majority with the four MPs from Alternative. The exact number of coalition MPs will be known at the Sobranje session.
It is assumed that some of the current ministers will retain their positions in the new government, and it is certain that the DUI (biggest Albanian party) ministers will not be replaced.
If this plan succeeds, VMRO-DPMNE, the biggest opposition party, will lose its chance to push for snap elections.
