A Double Taxation Convention would lead to many benefits when it comes to the taxation of all kinds of income and to the improvement of conditions for boosting bilateral trade, said Croatian Finance Minister Zdravko Marić . “This is a great signal for investors. We are tackling the matter that has been present for more than two and a half decades,” he added.
In October, the country’s Tax Administration will open preliminary talks on holding negotiations on the document.
According to the draft convention, a Double Taxation Convention will benefit all industrial sectors, notably the IT sector. On top of that, companies’ income will be taxed in their countries of residence, the draft convention reads.
However, Croatian President Zoran Milanović seized on the opportunity to launch a broadside against President Trump.
“Without the United States the world is not the same and I mean it in a negative sense. Donald Trump has ruined it all. He incites hatred, he is a rabble-rouser and that’s it. This is something you won’t hear from the Croatian prime minister or the foreign minister, but it has to be said,” said President Milanović in front of foreign diplomats, including US Ambassador Robert Kohorst, who was appointed by Trump.
“I know what I stand for and which values I advocate, and my style is much more similar to that of Joe Biden, whom I have met and talked to,” the president added.
