Activist denounces Schengen visa fraud

Andrei Sumar, a civil rights activist from Belarus is frustrated that the European Parliament Committee on Petitions disregards the many complaints of Belarussian nationals, who cite corruption in the issuing of Schengen visas by EU embassies in Minsk.

For four years, the Renaissance Foundation of Belarus has denounced the corruption to several EU institutions, but there has been no response, he says.

“My impression is that the European Commission tries to hide this crime,” the activist commented. He strongly believes that the authorities in Belarus profit from the scheme.
