The increasing failure of multilateralism to provide global solutions to global problems is alarming. Could the European political parties play a role in strengthening international rule-making?
European political families have been the drivers of European integration for the past 60 years. They have been the catalyst in the creation of the most innovative paradigm of intergovernmental and supranational cooperation, providing the ideological backbone, public narrative and the operational rulebook of the European Union.
In view of dysfunctional global governance structures, new pathways are sought. The European political parties, through their extensive global affiliations and networks, could give a new impetus to international norm-making, towards the construction of a global polity, by applying their European experience to worldwide challenges.
EURACTIV organised this high-level Stakeholder Workshop to discuss the role of European Political parties in shaping global governance mechanisms.
- Can the European political parties, through their global networks, pave the way for global parties?
- What role can the EU and European political parties play in shaping the future of global governance?
- Should the European Commission make global governance evolution an EU priority for the next five years?
- Multilateralism: what’s next?
