Bellstedt argues that a new approach is needed to synchronise the EU’s public affairs activities. Real efforts must be made towards getting EU citizens enthusiastic about the European project once more, argues Bellstedt, in the wake of the French and Dutch Constitution-rejecting referenda. In economic terms, the EU has no time to lose, says Bellstedt, who believes that it is for this reason that Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Vice-President Günter Verheugen, with a specific industrial policy remit, have cited the Lisbon Process as a main plank of their work. “The ‘Lisbon Process’ label covers all Brussels-based initiatives designed to give the EU a major new impetus to economic growth – for example, by removing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, promoting new technologies and liberalising markets.” To read the full article, click here.
