Political scientists and researchers to advise the Commission

The Commission has established a new external advisory group to provide the commissioners with objective and impartial advice on EU policies.

The Commission has invited political scientists and researchers to join the new external advisory group called ‘Group of political analysis’ (GPA). The purpose of the group is to provide the commissioners with expert and impartial advice on EU policies and to stimulate dialogue between the Commission and experts from academia, business and civil society.

The group is one of three external advisory groups set up by the Commission. The other two focus on economics and social science. The GPA held its first meeting on 15 April 2005.

The group is composed of three special advisors and six other members. Its meetings will be chaired by the Commission President José Manuel Barroso and attended by commissioners with portfolios relevant to the discussion.
