The Swiss Parliament discussed proposals to reopen membership talks with the European Union. After last month's approval of the EU-Swiss bilateral trade accords, several pro-European groups had called called on the government to start talks on membership immediately. But the government, although in favor of long-term reopening of negotiations, refuses to jump on the fast train to EU membership.
