The resolution of the EP calls for the development of a new information and communication strategy in order to enhance the knowledge and the understanding of the nature of the European Union among its citizens. Main objectives of the resolution: the decentralisation of the information campaigns to already existing information networks in the Member States such as Info Points; the setting up of 'European Union Houses', common to all European institutions in all capitals of Member States and applicant countries; to focus the information campaigns on issues close to the everyday life of the citizens (food safety, the euro, employment, environment, freedom of movement), and to important issues such as the future of Europe, enlargement and the European Charter of fundamental rights); to make information factual, impartial and free of propaganda; to give priority to TV and internet use, rather than printed material; to simplify and reorganise the Europa website by setting up a common portal for all legislative institutions; to make the access to all Community databases for free; to create a European Union TV-channel, dealing with EU policies, similar to some channels at national level; to have videoconferencing equipment installed in the Parliament in order to enable MEPs to have easier access to their constituencies.
