The 2007 Responsible Business Competition has been launched to encourage business leadership skills that take into account social and environmental responsibilities.
The competition, organised by HP Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) and Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise (JA-YE), will run in nine countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.
The main component of the competition is the Responsible Business Award, which will be awarded to student companies that best integrate strong financial performance, social responsibility and environmental excellence into their business plans and operations.
Last year’s winner was the Estonian student company VOLLI, which created trendy, modern, light and comfortable wallets made of used juice-cartons.
“We are working together with JA-YE on this competition to support Europe’s future business leaders and entrepreneurs in developing business practices that are good for society and the environment,” said Gabriele Zedlmayer, vice president of Corporate Marketing and Global Citizenship, HP EMEA.
“Initiatives like this competition are highly relevant and send an important and positive message to young people about what modern business is all about,” said Caroline Jenner, chief executive of JA-YE Europe.
