Employment Council to focus on workers’ consultation

Employment and Social Affairs Council seeks political agreement on draft directive on information and consultation of workers

Other points on the Council’s agenda:

  • equal treatment between men and women in employment and vocational training
  • health and safety of workers exposed to noise in the workplace
  • preparation of Gothenburg Summit: sustainable development strategy.

The Employment and Social Affairs Council of Monday 11 June will try to reach a political agreement on the draft directive on information and consultation of workers.

The draft directive establishing a general framework for informing and consulting employees has been blocked for several years by the UK, Ireland, Germany and Denmark. The Swedish Presidency has had bilateral talks with the opposing Member States and is "optimistic" that a common position can be reached.
