Chief TTIP negotiator: Greenpeace statements ‘wrong’

The EU’s chief TTIP negotiator, Ignacio Garcia Bercero, said on Monday that Greenpeace’s leaked text about EU-US negotiations on a transatlantic trade deal “is not a reflection of the outcome of the negotiation.”

Garcia Bercero’s comments come after Greenpeace Netherlands published 248 pages of classified documents to “shine a light” on negotiations for the deal. According to the NGO, TTIP poses a “major risks for climate, environment and consumer safety”.

Speaking to reporters on Monday in Brussels, Garcia Bercero said that some of Greenpeace’s points were “flatly wrong.”

“We take into account any papers, inputs, whether they come from industry or other stakeholders, trade unions, consumer organisations, or indeed environmental NGOs,” the EU official added.
