NATO’s chief: ‘Europe should develop military capabilities’

As EU leaders gather in Brussels for the last EU summit of the year, NATO's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that Europe should develop 'military capabilities', including 'observation drones, air to air refueling and heavy transport'. 'This is not about creating a European army, this is about making sure that the countries in Europe are strong and capable so that they can contribute to crisis management', he added.

NATO’s chief: We need to boost Europe’s military force

As EU leaders gather in Brussels for the last EU summit of the year, NATO's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that Europe need a 'stronger defence'. 'If European nations invest more in military capabilities, they could make stronger contributions to NATO.”, Rasmussen added. Heads of state and government are meeting in Brussels on 19 and 20 December for a European Council summit. Security and defence and the economic and monetary union are the main topics on the agenda.

NATO Chief calls for ‘firm international response’ to chemical attack in Syria

As UN figures have revealed that over 2 million people have fled their homes in Syria, Nato's political chief on Monday called for a strong 'international response' to the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict. Rassmussen said in Brussels that he also believes the Syrian government is behind the chemical weapons attack that took place earlier in August in the outskirts of Damascus, killing over 1000 people.

Nato launches European missile shield

NATO's new European missile defense system is ready too start operating. The mechanism will link together the missile defense systems of all the allies and it will be controlled by NATO.
