EU calls Spanish claims on new Erasmus funding ‘rubbish’

Brussels contradicted the statement sent out on Monday by the Spanish Minister of Culture Jose Ignacio Wert, after he suggested that new EU funding criteria will see the number of Spanish Erasmus students reduced by half next year. In one of the harshest attacks on the Spanish government that has recently come out of Brussels, the Commission described the minister's words as 'rubbish'.

Erasmus student programme sets record

The EU’s top education official, Androulla Vassiliou, has called for a revamped Erasmus student exchange programme to place more emphasis on youth employability in the coming years, as the European Commission reveals a record 253,000 students took part in the programme last year.
