The EU summit today (7 March) will be the 101st for Jean-Claude Juncker, as premier of Luxembourg and president of the European Commission. Second comes German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with 66 summits Third is Donald Tusk, with 57 summits as premier of Poland and president of the European Council.

Tusk calls migration summit number 5

European Council President Donald Tusk has called another EU summit on the migrant crisis, the fifth this year, this time in Valletta, on 12 November. The summit of the EU leaders will be held back-to-back with an EU-Africa summit on migration, which will start the previous day.

Tusk threatens leaders with another summit

Council President Donald Tusk tweeted today (11 September) that he will call an extraordinary summit if the Union’s justice and home affairs ministers fail to reach an agreement, based on the Commission’s plan to redistribute 160,000 refugees among them.

Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament, sees European democracy at risk. Speaking in Berlin last week he heavily criticised EU summitry and presented his own vision for the future of Europe.
